On Monday mornings, on the main road (Calle 9) at Natural Thangs, there is an outdoor market selling produce and items
A Mile Away
-
West (or as you look at the ocean, to your left) is the town of Chuburna Puerto. There are small stores, and a few restaurants. Seafood here is literally fresh off the boat!
-
For Pizza (and vegetarian fare) check out Maasai Maya Bistro. For Fish, you should try Christo Rey
-
There is the new long large pier out into the ocean. Take a stroll, and you can fish off of the pier too!
A Few Miles Away
-
East (or as you look at the ocean, to your right) is the town of Chelem. Bigger than Chuburna Puerto, there are many more stores (still small ones though), a pharmacy and a gas station. We love Taco Maya for weekend breakfasts, Bull Pen and Sliders. Beach front ceviche? Go to La Playa!
-
In the summer, there is a local baseball team that plays on Sundays in the middle of town
-
On the main road, there are a few 2nd hand stores and in summer, stands selling coconut pies and veggies
-
July and August when the local children are out, there is a night carnival in the square
15 Minutes Drive
-
Keep heading east and you will see signs for Progreso.
-
On this major road, you will find 2 excellent activities locations. El Corchito is wonderfull!! Its a cenote where families come to swim and picnic. Take to the water on kayaks with La Ria Parador Turistico. There are also wind surfing or kiting places where the rio and ocean meet.
-
Progreso is where you will find large stores like a Target (called La Bodega), many more restaurants and stores
-
Progreso has an excellent hospital
-
Cruise ships come into Progreso docking at one of the largest piers in the world. On this water front you will find more commercial offerings that cater to the cruise ship crowd
30 Minutes Drive
-
On the road to Merida, there is an amazing Mayan site at Dzibilchaltún. These ruins are worth the trip as they are spectacular but without the crowds

While there are signs for two golf clubs, they appear to not be open to the public
45 - 50 Minutes Drive

In Merida you have everything. Top end stores, many restaurants, and local sports teams
